Welcome to Vacations-in-the-Adirondacks.com Newsletter

January 2011

Hello Fellow Adirondack enthusiast,

Welcome to 2011! The year of the Rabbit. I hope all of you have a healthy and prosperous year. I'm glad to send you the latest edition of this newsletter.

Here are some links and more information I have added in the last few months to the website.

Porcupine B & B Inn Lodge - On this page I added much more information on this jewel. Some years ago I visited the Porcupine and found it to be a fine Upscale Bed and Breakfast. It is located in Saranac Lake which is about 7 miles from the Olympic Village of Lake Placid.

Lake Placid NY's Jimmy's 21 restaurant menu - Check for some of your favorite Italian fine meals.

Belvedere's Restaurant in Saranac Lake - More delicious Italian fine dining.

A digital photo tip from the photography coach, Ron Mitchell.

How many Megapixels is enough? Should I get a 6, 8 or 10 Megapixel camera? It depends on the size of the photo prints you want to print.

For example, I have a SLR digital Canon Rebel XTI camera. It can produce picture images of up to 10.1 Megapixels. That is 10.1 Million super small squares of light and photo information. In the camera menu there is a setting for Image-Recording quality. I can choose small, medium, large and Raw sizes. (Raw is a subject in itself.) I'll just focus on the first three.

If the quality is set at small, when photos are taken they will be at 2.5 Megapixels. The prints can printed up to 5.8 inches by 3.9 inches. If it's set at Medium then the shots will be at 5.3 Megapixels and the size of prints could be printed at 11.7 in. by 8.3 and finally at Large then the images are 10.1 Megapixels and the size of the prints could be 16.5 by 11.7 inches.

So a 6 or 8 Megapixel camera will probably take care of most peoples needs. However, if you want to print large photos for yourself or possibly sell them to others then 10 Megapixel or larger would be the ones for you.

Another benefit of having a camera that can shoot higher Megapixels is that if you tend to crop out parts of photos and enlarge those parts then having more photo information would allow you to print clear photos after cropping.

If you have any questions about this photo tip then please drop me a note by sending me a letter via the contact form on the Website.
