Rochester Jazz Festival
The 2010 Rochester Jazz Festival will go from June 11 thru June 19, 2010. Part of line-up has already been announced. Gladys Knight plays June 11, 2010 at 8 PM Herbie Hancock June 15th at 8 PM Bernie Williams, the former New York Yankees teammate plays June 17th. The great Guitarist, Jeff Beck's 8PM show on June 18th has sold out so a 11PM show has been added. Watch this page for future musician additions. Rochester Jazz Festival
event occurred June 12-20, 2009. Friday, June 12 Smokey Robinson Saturday, June 13th SMV- The Thunder tour - Victor Wooden, Stanley Clarke and Marcus Miller. Tuesday, June 16th Carolyn Wonderland and Jake Shimabukuro June 17th Dave Brubeck Quartet- Hear the classic Jazz hit "Take Five" Thursday June 18 Michael McDonald ( When you hear his voice you'll recognize one of the Doobie Brothers.) Friday June 19th Taj Mahal Also Joe Lavano, Bill Frisell Trio, Erin Bode, Cedar Walton, Holly Cole, Pat Martino, Marta Gomez, Billy Bang, Jazz Mandolin Project, Mike Kaupa Quartet, Gap Mangione Quartet, Eric Alexander Quartet, Bob Schneider Trio, Marshall Tucker Band, Bonerama, Monty Alexander, Tower of Power, Buckwheat Zydeco, The Fabulous Thunderbirds and more. ------------The 2008 Rochester Jazz Festival had some top notch musicians performing including Frank Sinatra Jr-"Sinatra singing Sinatra", Dee Dee Bridgewater, Richard Bona, "Gillespiana"-A tribute to Dizzy Gillespie directed by Jeff Tyzik, Rochester Jazz and the Philharmonic, Bozz Scaggs and Al Green. Venues include Eastman Theater, Kilbourn Hall, Max of Eastman Place, Montage, High Fidelity, Harro East Ballroom, the Big Tent at Main and Gibbs Street, Christ Church and Lutheran Church of the Reformation.
At the State Street Bar and Grill, Bob Sneider played. Also, they had Jam sessions there nightly from 10:30pm-2:30am.
The History of Jazz
:The History of Jazz from it's roots in Africa through the Swing era of Benny Goodman and read about Modern experimental Jazz of Parker and Gillespie.
----------The 2007 Rochester Jazz Festival was held June 8-16, 2007. A variety of great Jazz Musicians played including

Trio Beyond + Jean Luc Ponty, Madeleine Peyroux, Dr. John, Randy Brecker, Eldar, Bill Frisell, Jerry Lee Lewis, Benny Golson, Solomon Burke, Raul Midon, Geri Allen Trio, Fred Hersch Trio, Mamadou Diabate Ensemble, Harry Allen Quartet, Christian Scott and many more. The Rochester Jazz Festival
is a yearly event. In 2006 the Fifth Annual Rochester International Jazz Festival opened on June 9th, 2006 with Woody Allen and his New Orleans jazz band who did a benefit concert for the New Orleans Musicians hurricane Relief Fund. Other artists included James Brown, The Godfather of Soul ( Sad news: James Brown died December 25, 2006.), Phil Woods, Toots Thielemans, McCoy Tyner, Wayne Shorter Quartet, Etta James, Charlie Hunter trio, Byron Stripling, Susan Tedeschi, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Kenny Garrett Quartet, Gap Mangione Quintet, Dave Rivello Ensemble, Mahavishnu Project, Joel Harrison plays George Harrison,
Dr. Lonnie Smith
, Joe Locke, Bill Dobbins Trio, Bob Sneider Trio, and more. This festival had an attendance of 80,000. Previous concert headliners included George Benson and Chris Botti. ----------
