The turning point of the Revolutionary war was the battle of Saratoga

The battle of Saratoga which was actually two battles occurred in the Saratoga region in 1777 during the American Revolutionary War. The battle (s) was a very important turning point because it was a victory for the Patriots. Also, because of the victory over the British troops, the French recognized and joined us against the British. This helped us eventually win the war.

You can learn more about early American history by walking the battlefields in the area. You can see where the fight occurred at what is currently the Saratoga National Historical Park.

This historical park is divided into three different areas: The battlefield in the town of Stillwater, General Schuyler’s house and the Saratoga Monument.

Maps of Burgoyne's March on Albany June-October 1777 These maps shows the battles during his campaign.

General Schuyler also had a house in Albany He had General Burgoyne as a “guest” sometime after Burgoyne surrendered the part of the British army under his command.

This park is run by the National Park Service in the United States Department of Interior. Here’s a link to their site for more information: Saratoga Battlefield

There are some fine Saratoga museums to visit in the area. They include a children's museum, one dedicated to dance, one on racing, another one focuses on military history the New York State Military Museum and more.

If you are looking for some fine places to stay then you may want to check out some lodging in Saratoga including some quality bed and breakfasts in Saratoga.
