Westchester House Bed and Breakfast The Westchester House is located in a residential neighborhood, four blocks from the historic downtown shopping/dining/entertainment district - two blocks past Victorian houses then two blocks through Congress Park; site of the Canfield Casino (presently home to the Saratoga Springs Historical Society museum); the 'Spirit of Life' sculpture by Daniel Chester French (creator of the statue of seated Lincoln at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC and the Minuteman in Boston); as well as a few of the Springs for which the city is so famous.

The inn was built in 1885 by master carpenter Almeron King for his own family and his skill can be seen throughout the inn from the herringbone wainscoting in the entrance hall, dining room and up the stairway, to the two Eastlake inspired fireplace mantels which grace the parlors. Bob and Stephanie Melvin, the innkeepers, collected antiques for twenty years prior to opening the inn and there are family heirlooms going back three and four generations from their families. The baby grand piano in this Adirondack lodging routinely gets played by guests and an extensive collection of books await browsers interested in Saratoga's history, glories, or any of the many interests of the innkeepers.

Virtually all of Saratoga Springs is within an easy walk from the Westchester House. The National Museum of (thoroughbred) Racing, National Museum of Dance (the only museum in the US devoted exclusively to dance in all its forms) and the Casino/Historical Society Museum. The thoroughbred race track is four blocks from the Westchester House.
